Alice Purton is a London-based cellist, who is much in demand as a chamber musician, contemporary music performer and improviser. She is a founder member of Distractfold, a Manchester-based ensemble specialising in instrumental, acousmatic, and hybrid music of the 21st century. Recent performances include the Harvard Group for New Music; Spectrum, New York; International Poznań Spring New Music Festival; and the IGNM concert series at Gare du Nord in Basel. In 2014 they became the first UK ensemble ever to win the Kranichsteiner Musik Preis at the Darmstadt International Summer Course for New Music.
Alongside her work with Distractfold, Alice is also a member of Plus Minus Ensemble, and is the cellist with the Chagall Piano Quartet, who were recent finalists in the St. Martin-in-the-Fields chamber music competition. This year Alice began collaborating with acclaimed jazz musicians Alice Zawadzki and Alex Roth in a project that draws together an eclectic collection of Songs To The Moon.
